Dogs have been our loyal companions for thousands of years. A relationship that began out of practicality —protection and hunting assistance in some of the earliest human settlements — has grown into a relationship built not only on loyalty, but also on affection, joy, and cuddles.
‘Human and companion’ became ‘man and best friend’ became ‘pet and their person.’
Our dog is a member of our family, and an integral part of our modern lifestyle.
But for a relationship that has modernized in such an incredible way, the dog training industry has not evolved at the same pace. While there are some fundamental truths about dog behaviors, the industry as a whole has not adapted to fit the way we interact with our dogs today.
That’s why we do what we do.
MORE THAN JUST
“HOW TO TRAIN A DOG”
Our modern approach to dog training is broken into four stages, and puts a heavy emphasis on positive reinforcement. We’ve learned from the best of the best; world-renowned trainers and techniques, and crafted our own style of training that works for all sizes, ages, and breeds.
Our process is effective, approachable, and sets both you and your doggo up for better communication with one another.
Whether you’re looking for behavioral modification, advanced off-leash obedience, puppy development, or aggression rehabilitation, we’ll get you and your pup on-track to get back to the life you love with a little less stress, and a few more belly rubs.
We're dog people. And we're here to help you better enjoy life with your dog.
OUR FOUR STAGES
We pair the behavior with commands, and teach your dog what habits are acceptable, and what's not gonna fly anymore.
We take those commands and add in distance and duration, along with counter conditioning for any unwanted behaviors. (Sorry, doggo. You cannot eat the mailman.)
We start incorporating your dog into real life situations. Picture parks, dog-friendly patios and stores, breweries, pack walks, and dog meetups. Look at your social butterfly go!
We’re smooth sailing now. You and doggo are confident, calm, and content, using your new training skills to make everyday life more seamless and fun.

MEET OUR HEAD DOG PERSON:
A Dog’s Life was launched in 2010 when a former veterinarian assistant found her true calling while attending dog training classes herself with her beloved best pal Ramsey.
Samantha Scarbourgh realized she had a gift and passion for getting through to dogs and teaching new behaviors that stuck, and getting rid of bad habits once and for all. After a year-long internship with Off Leash Dog Training, she accepted a role with a premier dog training facility in Charlotte, NC. Thanks to her time working alongside several world renowned dog trainers, Samantha honed her skills and was able to take the best parts of what she was learning to create her own effective and approachable process.
A Dog’s Life provides first-class dog training in the Charlotte area to pet parents who want to learn how to best communicate with their pet pals. Samantha holds certifications in E Collar, Behavioral Adjustment Training, Bart-Bellon-NePoPo, Puppy Training, and Tactical Tracking. She prides herself in earning the trust of her clients, their pets, staying up-to-date on the latest training methods, and being able to work with doggos of all breeds, ages, and temperaments.
Though Ramsey is no longer with her, Samantha is still a pet parent to her 5-year-old golden doodle, a certified therapy dog, and a 2-year-old dutch shepherd trained in search and rescue.
